“When I examined myself and my methods of thought, I came to the conclusion that the gift of fantasy has meant more to me than my talent for absorbing positive knowledge.“? Albert Einstein shared those words with us.? To Einstein, his imagination was his gift of fantasy.? It is a fantastic gift.
Your imagination is your own unique property.? It can transport you to places that no one else or anyone else can go.? It can brighten up your life.? It knows no boundaries.
Henry Kremer? through the Royal Aeronautical Society of Britain had offered a 50,000 pound reward for anyone who could demonstrate sustained, con trolled human powered flight.? He also offered through the same source, a 100,000 pound reward to anyone who could cross the English Channel by the same means.
Paul MacCready collected both rewards.
MacCready had a lot on his mind back in 1976 when he started on the problem during a family vacation.? He was responsible for repaying a loan he guaranteed for a friend.? That was his motivation.? He was also in the midst of some research on birds.? He had just completed an article on hang-gliding as compared to sailplaning and bird flight and that is when he let a fantasy fill his marvelous mind.
Scott Crossfield, a great test pilot, said of MacCready, “What he did was so illogical to an aeronautical engineer that his brilliance was in doing what he shouldn't have done”.? MacCready prefers to call it lack of knowledge.
“My lack of knowledge was helpful.? If I had had good design experience in making aircraft structures, I doubt I would have been able to pioneer this particular subject.? The conventional way was the wrong way to approach this task”, said MacCready.
If you're trying to make a breakthrough - let your mind wander.? The conventional approach may not solve the problem.? You have an imagination - use it!? Your imagination is your own unique property.? It can take you where no one else can go.? It can brighten up your life.? It knows no boundaries.
